Vancouver Giants News Release

Kamloops, B.C. - The Kamloops Blazers doubled the Vancouver Giants 4-2 on Saturday night at the Sandman Centre. Radovan Bondra and Trevor Cox scored for the G-Men in the loss.

Blazers' captain Matt Needham gave his team the lead on a power play in the dying seconds of the first period, deflecting a Ryan Rehill point shot past Vancouver goaltender Jake Morrissey. Needham scored again less than three minutes into the middle frame with a one-timer off the rush, but Bondra pulled the Giants back to within one when he scored a beautiful power play goal, picking the top right corner from the high slot.

Collin Shirley restored Kamloops' two goal lead in the third period with an individual effort, winning an attacking zone face-off and splitting the Vancouver defence before beating Morrissey on a wrap around. The G-Men got a late power play and pulled the goaltender. Cox scored to make it 3-2 with 1:05 left, just as the Blazers' penalty had expired, but Needham iced the game in the final minute, scoring into an empty net to complete his hat-trick.

The Giants are in action on Tuesday when they visit the Prince George Cougars at the CN Centre. Puck drop is slated for 7:00pm.

Vancouver's next home game is on Friday when the Victoria Royals visit the Pacific Coliseum on Outdoorsman Night! For tickets, go to TicketLeader.ca or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
