Florida Everblades News Release
AUGUSTA, GA - The Florida Everblades (40-19-3) picked up their third straight win with a dominating 8-2 win over the Augusta Lynx (26-30-5) on Saturday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. The eight goals were the most scored by the Everblades in one game this season.
A high-octane first period saw the Everblades tally a pair of short-handed goals and overall carry a 4-1 lead into the locker room after one period. Kevin Bergin and Phil Aucoin opened the scoring, each netting short-handed goals at 2:06 and 5:38 to help set the tone.
Augusta responded quickly after Aucoin's tally when Brian Passmore notched an even strength goal by wristing a shot past Everblades goalie Kevin Nastiuk at 6:53 to cut the Florida lead in half. The action continued to escalate and included a heavy-weight fight that lasted for nearly 90 seconds between Brandon Coalter and Dan Sullivan to help electrify the benches.
The Everblades took that added momentum and scoring twice more late in the opening period. Dustin Johner re-gained Florida's two-goal lead with his 14th goal of the season at 13:53 and Dan Sisca completed the strong period by jamming a rebound past Augusta goaltender Nathan Marsters with just 31 seconds remaining in the frame.
The Everblades continued to pour on the pressure adding two more goals in the second period. Vince Bellissimo opened a 5-1 Florida lead by tapping in a shot from the right post at 6:27. Just minutes later at 9:26, the Lynx changed goaltenders replacing Marsters with Jason Wolfe, who allowed Florida's sixth goal to Sisca at 13:54.
The Everblades added to their lead matching their season-high in goals when Steve Saviano the team's seventh goal at 5:47 of the third period. Augusta cut the Everblades lead back to five when Dan Sullivan tallied his 17th goal of the season at 9:38. Bellissimo closed out the scoring with his second goal of the night and 7th of the season with two minutes remaining in the contest.
In goal, Nastiuk picked up his fifth straight win by stopping 29 of 31 shots and raise his record to 11-3-1. Marsters suffered the loss allowing five goals on 14 shots in his 29:26 played, dropping his record to 1-1-2. Wolfe closed out the game in net for the Lynx by stopping 16 of 18 shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-for-3, while the Lynx closed out the game 0-for-5.
