LAS VEGAS - Mike Scott scored twice and Alex Leavitt added a goal and two assists as Alaska registered a decisive 5-1 victory in game one of its three-game series against second-place Las Vegas before 6,677 Friday at Orleans Arena.

A tight-checking, well-played game throughout, the Aces opened the scoring on a power play goal by Scott with 3:10 remaining in the first period. The Wranglers answered on a power play of their own when Marco Peluso whacked home a rebound with 44 seconds left in the frame to pull Vegas even at 1-1 after the opening 20 minutes.

Vladimir Novak banged in his own rebound to give Alaska the lead for good at 7:26 of the second period, his 12th goal of the year. The Aces capitalized on a Wranglers turnover late in the frame, with Scott blasting a slap shot by Las Vegas goaltender Marc Magliarditti with 39 seconds to go for his 32nd goal of the season and a 3-1 margin at intermission.

After Olivier Filion won an offensive zone face-off midway through the third period, Leavitt deked Magliarditti, drawing the puck around to his forehand for his 20th goal of the year at 8:50. After another Wranglers turnover with Alaska on a power play, Joe Talbot whipped a cross-ice pass to Kimbi Daniels for a one-timer that put the game away with 6:13 left in the contest.

Matt Underhill stopped 16 shots to earn his league-leading 33rd win of the season and improve the Aces record to 4-1 head-to-head against the Wranglers, who slipped four points behind Alaska (49-9-4) in the West Division. The Aces, who also have a game in hand, line up for the rematch tomorrow at Orleans Arena, with the face-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. AST. The teams meet for the final time Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. AST. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games and selected road contests also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
