Augusta Lynx News Release
One night after a tightly contested game, the Florida Everblades exploded for eight goals on the Augusta Lynx for an 8-2 win on Saturday night before 4,334 fans at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
The Lynx had not given up a shorthanded goal at home all season until Florida scored two of them on Augusta's first two power play chances to open the period in a 2-0 hole. Kevin Bergin opened the scoring at 2:06 followed by Phil Aucoin's man-down marker at 5:38 to put the Lynx back on their heels.
Brian Passmore would come back for the Lynx at 6:53, roofing the puck over the left shoulder of Kevin Nastiuk in the Florida net for a 2-1 score, but Florida came back to score twice more on goals by Dustin Johner and Daniel Sisca and left the ice up 4-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Florida tacked on two more goals in the second from Vince Bellissimo and Sisca to take a 6-1 lead through two periods of play. Lynx starter Nathan Marsters was lifted after 29:26 and nine saves on 14 shots in favor of Jason Wolfe, who stopped 8-of-9 shots in the remaining half period.
Dan Sullivan would tack on a late marker for Augusta but Bellissimo and Steve Saviano iced the victory cake for Florida with third period goals.
Nathan Marsters took the loss while Nastiuk finished with 29 saves for the victory. Augusta went 0-for-5 on the power play while Florida finished 0-for-3.
The Lynx are back in action Monday night in Charlotte to take on the Checkers at 7:05 pm. The Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicks off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
