Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades saw the South Carolina Stingrays even their best-of-five series with a 4-3 victory at Germain Arena.
Two late second period goals by the Stingrays helped propel them to their first ever win over the Everblades in the post-season. Carlyle Lewis and Brad Parsons scored 1:22 apart late in the second period to open a 2-1 lead entering the third period. Lewis notched his second goal of the playoffs with a power play tally at 15:02 of the middle frame, and Parsons chipped in his first of the post season at 16:22, picking up a fortuitous bounce off the end glass.
The teams swapped goals throughout the third period, with the Stingrays tallying a little over four minutes in on a goal by Matt Reid opening a 3-1 lead. Florida answered back at 6:30 on Ryan Brindley's first of the playoffs to cut the lead to one, however South Carolina took advantage of a 2-on-1 at 9:16 to regain the two goal advantage when Trevor Johnson chipped a shot past Everblades goaltender Tyler MacKay. The Everblades again, trimmed the lead to one when David Lundbohm scored his third of the playoffs with 2:30 remaining in the contest, but despite good pressure in the final 1:20 with MacKay pulled for the extra attacker, the Everblades couldn't find the tying goal.
Kris Vernarsky spotted the Everblades the early lead, scoring his first of the post season at 15:24 of the first period.
MacKay fell to 1-1 allowing the four goals on 21 shots. South Carolina net minder Gregg Naumenko (1-0) earned the win, turning away 46 of the 49 Florida shots he faced.
Florida closed out the night 1-for-5 on the power play, and South Carolina also finished the evening 1-for-5 on the man-advantage.
