Goaltender Barry Brust Receives More Accolades

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that rookie goaltender Barry Brust has been the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for April. This honor marks the third time this season that Brust has been recognized by the ECHL and its partners for outstanding performance on the ice.

In April, Brust continued his sizzling play. He was undefeated in four outings posting a 4-0-0 record with 1.50 goals against average and a .946 save percentage. Brust helped the Royals win five straight games and claim the club's first North Division regular season title. Following a 6-3 win at Dayton on April 1, Brust stopped 25 shots in a 5-1 win against Atlantic City on April 2 and 32 shots in a 2-1 win against Peoria on April 3 before ending the regular season making 19 saves in a 2-1 win against Toledo on April 7, the Royals final regular season home contest.

The 21-year-old Brust is a two-time winner of the ECHL Saver of the Week for March 14-20 and March 28- April 3. During those weeks, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound netminder posted a 2-0-1 record, .950 goals against average and .973 save percentage and a 3-0-0 record, 1.66 goals against average and .945 save percentage, respectively. The Swan River, Manitoba native was runner up three times for ECHL Saver of the Month in November, March and April.

Under contract with the Los Angeles Kings, Brust finished the regular season in the ECHL in goals against average (1.96) and tied for fifth in wins (27) which is a new Royals regular season record for a goaltender. The third round pick of the Minnesota Wild in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft set a new Royals records for consecutive games unbeaten at home (15) and overall (12). Dating back to January 7 through the end of the regular season, Brust was 13-0-2 at home with 1.44 goals against average and .944 save percentage. Overall, Brust was unbeaten in 12 straight contests posting 1.31 goals against average and .950 save percentage. He also set a new Royals record with four shutouts this season. On March 29 at the Royals 4th Annual Fan's Choice Awards (team end-of-the-year banquet), Brust was voted by the fans as the Rookie of the Year and the Most Valuable Player.

The Royals and Storm will play game two on Saturday, April 16 at 7:05 p.m. Rieck's Printing in West Reading is handing out Royals/ Kelly Cup Rally Cards to the first 3,000 fans in attendance. Fans also have the opportunity to "Blow away the Storm" prior to the game. A vehicle provided by V&M Towing will be painted up in Storm colors and fans will have a chance to take a swing at it with a sledgehammer for Royals Charities. One swing for $1 located just out the Sovereign Center doors on 7th and Penn Streets.

Kelly Cup Playoff tickets are on sale at the Sovereign Center Box Office.
