Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) endash The Evansville Otters won a 10-inning game on Saturday night but fell in the same amount of innings on Sunday in a 3-2 home loss against Washington.

Evansville was able to record 17 strikeouts of Washington hitters (a Wild Things record) in the game, falling just three shy of the team record of 20 back on August 6, 1999.

Evansville trailed 2-0 on early unearned runs but battled back to again tie the game late. Troy Frazier hit a two out double in the seventh inning and scored soon thereafter on an RBI single from Alex Foltz.

Evansville, however, was unable to score the rest of the inning or the remainder of the night as Washington had the final score on a Trevor Pippin 10th inning home run.

Both starters did not factor in to the decision. Chris Smith threw 6 2/3 innings for the Wild Things, yielding a pair of runs. Evansville's Garrett Bullock fanned 10 batters in a span of 5 2/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs in the process.

The win goes to pitcher Nathan Striz, who was signed by Washington an hour before the game. Striz threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings while logging three strikeouts. Reliever Tyree Hayes receives the loss for Evansville. The right-hander struck out seven batters in 4 1/3 innings, giving up just two hits on the night.

Evansville is currently 1-2 on the season as Washington returns home to Pennsylvania with a 2-1 mark.

The Otters continue their homestand on Monday night with the series opening game against the Southern Illinois Miners. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Historic Bosse Field. It is Deaconess Regional Network Services Night at the ballpark. Fans can also purchase peanuts for just $1.
