Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio - The Schaumburg Boomers used a three run second inning to snap a 1-1 in the series finale at All Pro Freight Stadium on Sunday evening, as they completed the three game sweep with a 7-4 victory over the Lake Erie Crushers.

The Boomers (3-0) sent all nine batters to the plate in the second inning, and scored all three runs with two outs. The Crushers (0-3) were swept in their opening series for the first time in franchise history.

For the third night in a row, the Boomers scored first. Chad Mozingo walked to begin the contest, made his way to third on a double from Jereme Milons, and scored on Gerard Hall's groundout.

The Crushers answered quickly in the bottom of the inning, and tied the game at 1-1. Adrian Ortiz, Andrew Davis and Russ Moldenhauer stroked three consecutive singles, with Ortiz scoring the tying run on Moldenhauer's base knock.

Schaumburg took their second lead of the game, by scoring three times with two outs in the second inning. Andrew Cohn belted the first of three straight two out singles to score Mike Valadez. Cohn came home later in the inning on a single from Milons and Mozingo scored the final run of the inning on Frank Pfister's infield single.

Lake Erie had the bases loaded with nobody out in the fourth inning, but could only push one run across. Brandon Decker grounded into a double play with the bases full, which brought Jason Taylor home.

The Boomers added a single run in the seventh, and two more in the eighth inning to pull away. Valadez's groundout scored Nate Baumann in the seventh, before Milons stroked his second RBI single of the night in the eighth inning. Hall brought in Schauburg's final run on a groundout in the eighth.

As they had done a night earlier, the Crushers made some noise in the ninth. Taylor began the inning with a solo homerun, his second of the season. Kellen Kulbacki followed with a base hit, but Robbie Kuzdale lined into a double play a few pitches later. The Crushers had runners on first and second when Gered Mochizuki belted an RBI double to right field. The tying run was at the plate when Ortiz grounded out to end the game.

Mickey Jannis (0-1) took the loss for the Crushers, allowing four runs on nine hits over four innings of action. Schaumburg's Tyler Watkins earned the victory, holding the Crushers to just a pair of runs on six hits over six strong innings. Dave Whigham (1) pitched to two batters in the ninth, and secured the final out to score the save.

The Crushers pounded out four runs on 11 hits, with three players hitting safely multiple times. Ortiz, Kulbacki and Kyle Weldon all recorded a pair of hits on the evening. Taylor went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI.

The Crushers are off on Monday, but will begin a three game series with the Normal Cornbelters at The Corn Crib on Tuesday night. Left hander Randy Sturgill (0-0, 0.00) will take the mound for the Crushers, and the Cornbelters will counter with right hander Daniel Britt (0-0, 0.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
