Evansville Otters News Release
Traverse City, MI- The Evansville Otters (37-18) have tied their longest winning streak of the season after their 6-0 victory last night over the Traverse City Beach Bums (32-21) thanks to a dominant complete game effort by Will Oliver. They look to extend the season-high win streak to eight games in the middle game of their series tonight at 6:05 pm CDT.
The man many will look to help continue that streak is the cleanup hitter Dane Phillips. Since being signed by the Otters on July 1st, Phillips has done nothing but cause damage to opposing pitchers. He hit his first home run against the Schaumburg Boomers in the July 4th weekend series and continues to rack up the RBI. In his last 12 games, the utility outfielder/catcher from Nacogdoches, TX, has driven in 14 runs on two home runs and three doubles.
Phillips has solidified the middle part of the lineup for the Otters, providing a much needed bat behind reigning Frontier League MVP Shayne Houck. Since he joined the club at the beginning of July, the Otters have gone 13-3 and jumped from third in the East Division of the Frontier League all the way into first and now have the best record in all of the Frontier League.
Phillips and the rest of the Otters will try to continue their stellar play when they take on the Beach Bums tonight at Wuerfel Park. With the victory last night, the Otters have tied their longest winning streak of the season at seven (5/19-5/26) and are hoping to take their first series of the season from the Beach Bums who currently lead the season series four games to three. It will be Preston Olson (5-3, 3.65) out on the mound for the Otters as the tall righty from Salt Lake City, UT looks to get back on the winning track after taking a loss in his last outing before the All-Star break.
Olson went six innings for a complete game against the Florence Freedom, but took the loss by giving up three runs (all earned) on eight hits while striking out five and walking three. His counterpart from the Beach Bums will be Anthony Montefusco (3-4, 4.27) who is coming off of a No Decision in his last outing where he went six innings and did not allow any runs. He has not won a start in his last three starts, having last won on June the 21st in a start against the Otters.
The scheduled first pitch is for 6:05 pm CDT with the pregame show on 91.5 FM WUEV with Jake Donnelly to begin at 5:45 pm CDT.
The Otters will return to Evansville and finish off their week of baseball against the Washington Wild Things with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The first game on Friday will start at 6:35 pm CDT with the pregame show with Mike Radomski, Bill McKeon and Jake Donnelly starting at 6:15 pm CDT.
