Evansville Otters News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN- The Evansville Otters (24-15) righted the ship last week by taking two of three at home against the Frontier Greys and then doing the same on the road in Avon, OH versus the Lake Erie Crushers.
Although the offense had some trouble getting on track, one of the standouts over the weekend series was Cory Urquhart who picked up a pair of extra base, including a triple to leadoff the game on Saturday; his first at bat after being inserted into the leadoff spot.
While Urquhart's .244 batting average on the season might not be immediately impressive, he has been doing tremendous damage with runners in scoring position. The right-handed bat's average jumps to .321 when he comes to the plate with a chance to drive in some runs and has done so to the tune of 14 RBI in those situations. Urquhart is also doing a standout job over at shortstop where he has committed just five errors on the season, despite playing at one of the most demanding positions on the field and getting just one game's worth of rest.
Urquhart and the rest of the Otters are looking to exact some revenge over the next two days at home when they will play three games against the Windy City Thunderbolts who thus far have taken four out of six games from the Otters.
Tonight will be a doubleheader at Bosse Field with Game One pitting Efrain Nieves and his 4-2 record and 3.22 ERA up against Austin Wright (2-5 with a 5.00 ERA). In the battle of left-handers both are coming off of rocky starts in their last outings; Nieves last pitched against the Frontier Greys where he went just five innings and allowed seven runs, although only three of them were earned. Wright had his trouble against the Normal Cornbelters where he went just 5.1 innings pitched while ceding five runs, three of those earned.
Game Two features maybe one of the best arms in the Frontier League this season in the Otters' Trevor Walch. He is second in the Frontier League with a 1.29 ERA after going eight innings of shutout baseball against the Frontier Greys in an Otters 1-0 victory back on the 24th of June. Walch is 4-2 on the season and has had four different starts where he did not allow an earned run. It will be Zak Wasserman, another lefty, on the mound for the Thunderbolts. He went six innings in his last outing and gave up two runs (both earned) in a no decision back on the 25th.
Game One's first pitch is scheduled for 5:35 pm CDT at Bosse Field and the pregame show with Mike Radomski, Bill McKeon and Jake Donnelly slotted for 5:15.
