WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things hit three homers on Wednesday evening at Consol Energy Park and held the Lake Erie Crushers to three hits, as they took the second game of the series, 6-0.

The loss for the Crushers (15-23) was their fourth in five games against the Wild Things (17-24), who had won just four of 18 games at home entering the series.

While the Crushers were held to three hits, they also walked four times and had two get hit by a pitch, but couldn't push any runs across. They also stranded eight base runners on the night, including six in scoring position.

Danny Poma scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Carter Bell hit a fly ball to shallow right field. Ty Nelson caught the ball in right, while colliding with second baseman Frank Desico, which allowed Poma to score.

Washington would get their next five runs via the long ball. Sam Mende struck first with a two-run homer to left in the third inning, his fourth of the season to give Washington a 3-0 lead.

David Popkins hit the next two homers to put the game out of reach. Popkins belted a solo homer to right in the bottom of the fourth inning, and in the eighth, he struck again with a two-run shot to left to drive in the final runs of the game.

In the first three innings of the game, the Crushers left a runner stranded in scoring position. Desico singled with one out in the first, but was later left stranded at third. Joey Burney walked with one out in the second, but never made it past second base. Kevin Zak started the third inning with a free pass, but was left at third base.

Manager Chris Mongiardo was ejected in the top of the seventh inning, after arguing over a ball that went down the left field line that was ruled a foul ball.

Ernie Zaragoza (4-2) earned the win for the Wild Things, after tossing seven scoreless innings and allowed three hits while walking four and fanning four batters as well. Rob Blanc (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over six inning of work.

Juan Sanchez paced the Crushers offensively, reaching three times in four trips to the plate. He went 1-for-2, drawing a walk, stroking a double and was hit by a pitch. Desico went 1-for-4 with a base hit, and has now reached safely in six straight games.

The Crushers will finish their three-game series with the Washington Wild Things at Consol Energy Park on Thursday night. Right-hander Brad Duffy (4-1, 4.26) will start for the Crushers, while the Wild Things will throw left-hander Kyle Helisek (3-2, 1.82). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
