Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

For the second time this season, a pair of Goldeyes have swept the Northern League's weekly awards.

The Rawlings Player and Pitcher of the Week for July 24 to 30 were announced today and those honours went respectively to outfielder Fehlandt Lentini and starter Tony Evans. It's the second weekly nod this year for Lentini (June 5 to 11) while it's the first for Evans.

In seven games, of which Winnipeg won five, Lentini batted .310 with a home run, three doubles and a triple. He also drove in three runs, scored seven runs and was seven-for-seven in stolen bases to give him a league-best 38 steals, good for fifth in a single season in franchise history.

On the year, Lentini is batting .319 with four home runs and 33 runs batted in. In addition to being tops in steals, he is first in doubles (26), triples (7) and runs scored (65), second in hits (89) and extra-base hits (37) and ninth in batting.

In two starts, Evans was 1-0 with a 0.60 earned run average. His week included a complete game, two-hit shutout on July 25 as Winnipeg whipped Gary 14-0. And then, on Sunday, he allowed just one run on five hits in six innings against Calgary in a game the Goldeyes lost 9-8 in 10 innings.

On the year, Evans is 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA. He has fanned 38 while walking just 12 in 45 innings with a .216 opposition average, lowest among all Goldeyes starters.
