June 25, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Down East Wood Ducks News Release

Zebulon, N.C. - Alex Eubanks delivered his best start of the season, and the Woodies were able to survive an eighth inning rally from the Mudcats to win 6-4, Tuesday.

Down East (3-3, 53-23) takes a two games to none lead in the series, each time getting out to a lead of at least five runs in the ballgame over Carolina (3-3, 42-33).

The Woodies opened the scoring in the second inning on a solo home run from Curtis Terry, his first for Down East and 16th overall on the season. Later in the inning, the Wood Ducks loaded the bases, and Yohel Pozo would come into score on a wild pitch from Matt Smith (loss, 2-7).

Smith gave up two runs over 3.2 innings, issuing five hits and two walks, while striking out five. The Wood Ducks forced him to throw 78 pitches in the outing.

Eubanks on the other hand was excellent, going six scoreless innings, and striking out five, while allowing just three hits and walk.

Down East would add on against the Carolina bullpen. In the sixth Pozo belted his fifth home run of the year, a solo shot, to make it 3-0.

Then in the seventh, Down East would plate two more runs, as Diosbel Arias doubled home Hasuan Viera and Yonny Hernandez, who both walked in front of him, to push the lead to 5-0. Arias has now reached base in 24 consecutive games.

Down East wasn't done. In the eighth, Julio Pablo Martinez doubled into the right field corner, and after stealing third, came home on a Hernandez single into right pushing the advantage to 6-0.

All of the Mudcats offense would come in the home half of the eighth. Cole Uvila hit Trevor Morrison to begin the rally, and then Devin Hairston followed with a single. Tristen Lutz then plated a run with a swinging bunt single, and Mario Feliciano then bounced a ball off of the third base bag for an RBI. With the bases loaded, Corey Ragsdale would call upon Jefferson Medina (save, 2). Medina would allow two inherited runners to score on a two-run single from Eddie Silva, but he would keep the lead intact.

Medina would come back out for the ninth inning and get the Mudcats in order to finish off the win.

The Woodies will go for the three-game sweep Wednesday when they send lefty John King (1-0, 1.22) to the mound to face off with fellow lefty Aaron Ashby (1-0, 0.00) for Carolina. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. and the pregame show will be on the air at 10:50 a.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online on 960thebull.com as well as on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio Apps.
