Frederick Keys News Release

LYNCHBURG, VA. - An offensive explosion powered the Frederick Keys (2-4, 31-44) in a 13-4 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats (4-2, 36-37) on Tuesday night at Calvin Falwell Field. The 13 runs were fueled by seven extra-base hits, both season-highs for the Keys. J.C. Escarra tallied a career-high four hits while Trevor Craport knocked in three runs on three doubles. Ryan Ripken had three RBIs as well and hit his second home run in as many days. Coming into tonight's contest, the Keys had scored 12 runs in the second half.

The Keys score nine runs between the sixth and seventh innings as they sent 16 total men to the plate. Leading 4-3 heading into the sixth, Escarra hit a single and was brought home on Ripken's fifth home run of the season. After a single from Jomar Reyes and a double from Craport, Yeltsin Gudino hit a ground-ball up the middle to score a pair and push the lead to 8-3. Gudino finished with three RBIs on the night.

In the seventh, Frederick put up five runs as six straight runners reached to lead off the inning. Escarra, Ripken and Craport all doubled in the innings as Ripken, Craport and Gudino had RBIs.

The Hillcats responded in the bottom of the frame. Cody Sedlock walked a batter but struck out a pair before Oscar Gonzalez doubled home the run. Sedlock was pulled after walking one more batter as Cameron Ming came in to replace him. Mitch Reeves and Gavin Gollins tallied RBI base hits to score two more, but the 13-6 deficit was too much to overcome.

Sedlock (4-0) was dealt the win in his second straight relief outing. He gave up three runs, only one on which he was on the mound, while allowing three walks and striking out four in 2.2 innings.

The Keys jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on Escarra's run-scoring single, but Steven Kwan tied the game 1-1 with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning.

In the fourth, Zach Jarrett and Escarra hit back-to-back singles and after a fielder choice that put runners at the corners, Reyes hit a soft single into left field to score Jarrett. Craport then hit his first double that brought home both runners to make it 4-1.

In the bottom of the frame, DL Hall struggled. He walked the bases loaded which allowed the Hillcats to score on an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.

Hall tied a career-high after giving up six free passes. He was charged with three runs on three hits while striking out three in four innings. On the night, Keys pitching walked a season-high 10 batters.

Lynchburg starter Kirk McCarty (0-2) was dealt the loss. He allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out five in four innings. Felix Tati gave up seven runs on eight hits in two innings in relief.

The Keys finish up their three-game series with Lynchburg on Wednesday, June 26 before heading home to Frederick to start a weekend series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. RHP Brenan Hanifee (4-7, 4.76) will start for Frederick opposite RHP Justin Garza (4-5, 4.91). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
