Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - RHP Marco Estrada was called up from Triple-A Columbus to the Washington Nationals today. He began the season in the Harrisburg Senators' starting rotation.

Estrada, 25, went 6-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 13 starts as a Senator. With Harrisburg, he collected the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Month award for May. Estrada was promoted to Columbus on June 16th and went 3-3 with a 3.58 ERA in 12 starts for the Clippers. He had been especially hot of late, allowing just two earned runs over his last four starts with Columbus.

His first appearance with Washington will be his major-league debut. Estrada was selected by the Nationals in the sixth round of the 2005 draft out of Long Beach State University. He takes the place of relief RHP Luis Ayala, who was recently traded to the New York Mets for a player to be named.

Estrada becomes the second Senator from the 2008 Opening Day roster to be promoted to the major leagues this season. OF Roger Bernadina made his big-league debut on June 29th and singled in his first at-bat. He played in a total of ten games with the Nationals before being optioned to Columbus.

The Senators are currently on a season-long ten-game road trip. They return to Commerce Bank Park this Friday, August 22nd against the Portland Sea Dogs (Double-A Boston Red Sox). Game time Friday is set for 6:35 PM. Only seven home games remain on the 2008 regular-season schedule!
