
Rojas Delivers in Extras

(READING, PA) - Carlos Rojas hit a solo homerun in the tenth inning in Reading to provide the Baysox with a 3-2 victory Tuesday. With the Baysox win and a Harrisburg loss, Bowie's magic number is now five and the Baysox are 75-54 on the season. Akron also lost, giving Bowie a 3.0 game lead in the Southern Division with 12 games to play.
Reading took the first lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Javon Moran led off with a single, but he was picked off of first base by Baysox starter David Hernandez. Greg Golson drew a one-out walk and went to second on an infield single by Pedro Feliz. Golson scored on a single to center by Jeremy Slayden to put Reading up 1-0. Hernandez got Joey Hammond to pop out and John Suomi to fly out to end the inning.
Bowie came back to tie the game with a run in the top of the third. Blake Davis singled to right and went to second on a groundout by Sebastien Boucher. Carlos Rojas moved Davis over to third with a groundout to the pitcher and Nolan Reimold drew a walk. With two outs and runners on the corners, Steve Torrealba singled to right to plate Davis and tie the game at 1-1.
The Baysox would take a brief lead in the top of the seventh inning. Jonathan Tucker led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mike Rodriguez. Jeff Nettles was intentionally walked and Blake Davis drove Tucker in with a single to right to give Bowie a 2-1 lead. Greg Golson tied the game at 2-2 with a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Gerrardo Casadiego.
Carlos Rojas came up with one out in the top of the tenth, he had not registered a hit in his first four at bats. Rojas came up with a solo homerun to left field, it was his second career homerun. Julio Manon put Reading away with a scoreless bottom of the tenth to record his 30th save. Manon's 30 saves lead the Eastern League and are the most in Baysox history.
David Hernandez started the game for the Baysox and held the Phillies to one run in 4.0 innings on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts. He struck out five of the last six batters he faced. Rommie Lewis, Gerrardo Casadiego, Felix Romero and Julio Manon combined to hold Reading to three hits and two walks over the final six innings. Felix Romero struck out four batters and recorded his eighth win of the season.
The Baysox will continue their six game road trip with the second of a three-game series in Reading Wednesday. They will head to Binghamton for three more starting Friday before returning home next Tuesday. On Tuesday, August 26 the Baysox open their final regular season homestand, a three-game series against the Trenton Thunder.
The Bowie Baysox are out to Beat The Streaks in their 16th season as the "AA" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The Baysox have not reached the postseason since 1997 and have never reached the Eastern League Championship.
