
Esks Winners of the Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards Announced

(Edmonton) - Today, the Canadian Football League announced team winners for the 2013 Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards. Edmonton Eskimos winners are:
- Most Outstanding Player - Slotback Fred Stamps
- Most Outstanding Defensive Player - Defensive End Marcus Howard
- Most Outstanding Canadian - Slotback Shamawd Chambers
- Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman - Matt O'Donnell
- Most Outstanding Special Teams Player - Eric Samuels
- Most Outstanding Rookie - Eric Samuels
Players are selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches. In this first ballot, FRC representatives from each CFL city and the respective head coach submitted votes for the six categories. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club who, through on-field performance excellence, best represent the award's title.
The East and West Division winners for the 2013 Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards will be announced on Thursday November 7 at 10 a.m. MT. The 2013 Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards will be handed out on Thursday November 21 at Conexus Centre in Regina.
Fred Stamps - Most Outstanding Player
#2, Slotback
Stamps leads the league with 1,259 receiving yards. He recorded his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season in Week 14 against the Toronto Argonauts on a 35-yard reception. His 11 touchdowns are a career-high for the seven-year veteran. His longest reception of the season was a 51 yard catch in Week 13 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Marcus Howard - Most Outstanding Defensive Player
#91 Defensive End
Now in his third season with the Green and Gold, Howard leads the Eskimos with 10 sacks, including a three-sack performance in Week 14 against the Toronto Argonauts. He also recorded 27 defensive tackles, two pass knockdowns, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. View full player biography and career stats.
Shamawd Chambers - Most Outstanding Canadian
#17, Slotback
Chambers has recorded 40 catches for 453 yards and four touchdowns this season. The 2012 first-round draft selection registered his first career dual-touchdown game in Week 15 against the Montreal Alouettes in a five catch 87-yard performance. View full player biography and career stats.
Matt O'Donnell - Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman
#66, Offensive Lineman
O'Donnell started seven games at left guard and 10 games at right tackle this season. The six-foot-11, 340-pound offensive lineman is the tallest player in the Canadian Football League. View full player biography and career stats.
Eric Samuels - Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and Most Outstanding Rookie
#38, Linebacker
Samuels has shown strong versatility, seeing action at linebacker, safety, cornerback and defensive back. The first-year Eskimo leads the team with 18 special teams tackles and also recorded 28 defensive tackles, two fumble recoveries, one interception and two quarterback sacks.
