PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- At evening's outset on Wednesday, the Gwinnett Braves hadn't beaten the Pawtucket Red Sox in their last 10 meetings, dating to 2012, and Ernesto Mejia had yet to collect a hit in their 2013 season series.
By night's end, Mejia had four RBI and the Braves had a come-from-behind, 6-4 victory to even their current four-day set at McCoy Stadium.
Coming off seven wins in its last nine games, Pawtucket scored all four runs in the first, after its starter Steven Wright overcame a pair of walks to the contest's first two batters.
Jonathan Diaz connected off Wright's counterpart Tim Corcoran for a one-out solo home run, his first as a PawSox and just the 13th of his eight-year pro career. Drew Sutton and Bryce Brentz followed with singles and scored on Dan Butler's two-out double. Butler soon crossed the plate on a single by Jeremy Hazelbaker.
But Pawtucket put men in scoring position in just one of the next eight innings, only to see the Braves battle back.
Mejia led off the fourth with his International League-leading 11th homer, before Joey Terdoslavich delivered one of his three singles. Two passed balls advanced him to third base, allowing Terdoslavich to score on Joe Leonard's sacrifice fly.
Trailing 4-2, Gwinnett tied it in the fifth inning, when Mejia produced a two-out, two-run double off Wright, who eventually gave way to Graham Godfrey.
Godfrey retired the first four Braves he faced, giving him 12-plus consecutive scoreless innings in his last three outings. But in the top of the seventh, an error by Brock Holt allowed Jose Constanza to reach. Jason Heyward, on an injury-rehab assignment for Atlanta, singled and Tyler Pastornicky walked.
Mejia then broke the tie with a sac fly, setting up yet another from Terdoslavich for a 6-4 lead.
While Godfrey (L, 2-3) was charged with the loss, reliever Kameron Loe (W, 2-0) was credited with the win and Cory Rasmus (S, 5) earned the save.
The series continues Thursday at 7:05 p.m., when Red Sox prospect Rubby De La Rosa (0-0, 5.40) looks to build on four straight scoreless appearances. The Braves, who lost 15 of their previous 17 games before Wednesday's victory, counter with Omar Poveda (2-2, 2.56).
