Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Tampa Bay Rays have recalled LHP Alex Torres, who joins the team in St. Petersburg to provide added bullpen depth. Currently third in the International League in both ERA (2.39) and strikeouts (49), Torres will take the roster spot of 2012 Cy Young Winner David Price, who has been placed on the disabled list.

Amidst a star-studded Durham rotation, Torres has been stellar to start 2013, notching a 2-2 record and leading the Bulls staff in ERA and WHIP (1.06). A veteran of 48 starts for the Bulls over the past three seasons, the Venezuelan owns Durham's Triple-A single season strikeout record with 156 punch outs in 2011. This will be Torres' second appearance with the Rays, as he made four relief appearances for the Tampa Bay in 2011, going 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA.

Torres becomes the third Bull to get the call to the Majors this season, following RHPs Brandon Gomes and Josh Lueke.

The Durham Bulls return home to the DBAP on Saturday, May 18 to play a two game series against the Norfolk Tides. Tickets for all Bulls home games and ACC Baseball Championship games are available at durhambulls.com, by phone at 919.956.BULL, or at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park box office.
