May 2, 2024 - Carolina League (CarL)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers picked up their first win of the series as they knocked off the Lynchburg Hillcats 9-6 on Thursday evening.

A key error in the eighth inning was the difference in the ballgame. A double play that would have ended the inning allowed it to keep going as the throw was sent into left field.

Kannapolis struck first in the first inning as Caden Connor picked up his second home run on the season.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Juan Benjamin would drive home Angel Genao with an RBI single to center. A throwing error by Aldrin Batista on a pickoff move would let a second runner to come home in the inning, giving Lynchburg the 2-1 lead.

The Cannon Ballers would retake the lead with a two-run shot from Luis Pineda in the sixth inning, before a bases loaded walk would make it 4-2.

Lynchburg would not go away as Benjamin would pick up his second RBI on a ground out. Jose Pastrano would knot things up at four with a sacrifice fly to score Manuel Mejias.

In the top of the eighth inning, after the error had been committed, Rikuu Nishida would clear the bases with a three-run double down the left field line. He would end up on third after a throw home would go awry. Drake Logan would extend the lead in the ninth on a two-run home run of his own, making it 9-4.

Lynchburg would pick up two more in the ninth on a little dribbler to the mound from Angel Genao that saw the throw home go wide, plating both Luis Durango and Esteban Gonzalez.

The Hillcats will face off against Kannapolis again on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Lynchburg-hillcats.com.
