Pelicans Fall Short in 5-3 Loss to Red Sox

After taking the first two games of the series, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans dropped Thursday night's game 5-3 to the Salem Red Sox. With the loss, the Pelicans slipped to 9-14 while the Red Sox improved to 10-14.

Myrtle Beach tallied just five hits in the defeat, with Reggie Preciado (2-3, HR, RBI) posting the only multi-hit game with a solo home run in the seventh to make it a 4-3 deficit. Chris Paciolla (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) brought home two with a double to tie the game in the fifth.

After Luis Rujano struck out six with two earned runs in the first four innings, Jeral Vizcaino (2-2) followed with two more earned runs in his two relief innings to take the loss. Garrett Brown closed with one unearned run in his two frames.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Andy Lugo (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI) hit a double to left that scored two and gave the Red Sox a 4-2 lead. Daniel McElveny (2-4, RBI) hit two singles and brought a run home in the fourth.

Michael Sansone (1-0) earned the victory with one earned run in three relief innings while giving up just one hit and striking out three. Royman Blanco picked up the save with a scoreless ninth.

Salem will host the fourth game of the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
