Erik Gregersen rejoins Kernels from Orem; Max Russell to Inland Empire

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that RHP Erik Gregersen will join the Kernels from the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League and that LHP Max Russell has been promoted to Inland Empire of the California League. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Wednesday.

Gregersen was a member of the Kernels 2011 Opening Day Roster and was assigned to Extended Spring Training on May 10. In eight games for the Kernels he had no record and a 6.30 ERA, allowing 11 hits and eight runs (seven earned) with seven walks and 10 strikeouts in 10 IP.

Russell made 20 starts for the Kernels, posting a 5-10 record and 3.79 ERA. In 114 IP, he allowed 101 hits and 60 runs (48 earned) with 45 walks and 85 strikeouts.

Gregersen will join the Kernels in Geneva, IL and be available for tonight's 6:30 pm game with the Kane County Cougars. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with one player currently on the disabled list.

The Kernels continue a nine game, 10-day road trip tonight at 6:30 pm against Kane County. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 30th to host the Beloit Snappers at 6:35 pm.
