Erie's Offense Breaks Out with 18 Hits in Win

The SeaWolves offense broke out with 18 hits in a 12-4 win over Harrisburg.

Erie loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first against Senators starter Mitchell Parker. Jace Jung started the scoring with a single. Chris Meyers' fly ball turned into a double play as Jacob Young threw out Justice Bigbie at home plate.

Keider Montero started for Erie and ran into trouble in the third inning. Young scored a leadoff walk with a one-out double, tying the game at one. With two out, Trey Lipscomb scored Young with a single. James Wood then blasted a long two-run home run, giving Harrisburg a 4-1 lead.

Montero settled in to retire the final 10 batters he faced. He went six innings, allowing four runs on five hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Erie's offense scored in five consecutive innings beginning in the fourth. Three straight singles began the fourth to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Daniel Cabrera to make it 4-2. Bigbie then hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice, making it 4-3.

Garvin Alston replaced Parker in the fifth. He hit Jung to begin the frame. Meyers then blasted a go-ahead two-run homer.

In the sixth, Erie got two more with two out. Julio Rodriguez notched a run-scoring single, which Daniel Cabrera followed with one of his own, opening up Erie's lead to 7-4.

The SeaWolves widened the lead with four seventh-inning runs. Donny Sands' second hit of the game scored a run and made it 8-4. With the bases loaded, Meyers hit a long sacrifice fly to make it 9-4. Rodriguez then notched his third hit, a two-run single, which opened an 11-4 lead.

Ben Malgeri's solo home run in the eighth inning made it 12-4.

Montero (10-2) earned the win. Alston (2-4) took the loss. Tyler Mattison and Andrew Magno combined for three scoreless innings in relief. Eight SeaWolves hitters notched multi-hit games.

The series continues on Friday at 6:35 p.m. with Ty Madden facing Michael Cuevas.
