August 3, 2023 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Six players with multi-hit games power the Akron RubberDucks past the Somerset Patriots 8-2 on Thursday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Akron jumped ahead in the first. A walk by Aaron Bracho and single by Angel Martinez put runners on first and second with nobody out. Juan Brito pulled a triple down the line in right to score both and make it 2-0 RubberDucks.
Mound Presence
Tommy Mace breezed through Somerset lineup the first time through only allowing one base runner on a walk in the second. The right-hander ran into some trouble in the fourth allowing a run on a two out double, but that would be the only real opportunity the Patriots got against Mace the whole night. In total, Mace tossed 5.2 innings allowing the one run on four hits while striking out five. Jordan Jones followed with a scoreless inning and a third with a strikeout. Davis Sharpe allowed a run over an inning of work. Franco Aleman struck out one in a perfect ninth.
Duck Tales
Akron added on in the bottom of the second when Petey Halpin reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Gabriel Rodriguez to score and make it 3-0 RubberDucks. Michael Berglund came across to score later in the second on a wild pitch to stretch Akron's lead to 4-0. Berglund kept Akron's offense rolling in the fourth by doubling with one out. Two batters later, Halpin singled home Berglund before coming around to score on a single by Martinez to make it 6-1 RubberDucks. Bracho capped a big offensive night for Akron by launching a two-run home run off the batter's eye in the sixth to make it 8-1 RubberDucks.
