
Stuart, Schwartz Lead Binghamton to Shutout Over New Hampshire

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (14-15, 49-49) shutout the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-0 on Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium, led by starting pitcher Tyler Stuart and left fielder JT Schwartz. It was the Ponies' second shutout of New Hampshire in this series.
Stuart lowered his Minor League-leading ERA to 1.70 with seven scoreless innings. He struck out five batters, while allowing just three hits and two walks. The 23-year-old tied Double-A career highs with seven innings and five strikeouts.
With two outs in the sixth inning, Rowdey Jordan drew a walk. Schwartz followed with an RBI double against New Hampshire (9-18, 44-51) reliever Juan Nuñez to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead.
Schwartz went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, an RBI, and a stolen base. He has totaled at least three hits in four-straight games with 13 hits in that span. In six games since coming off the injured list, the 23-year-old is hitting .625 (15-for-24).
The Ponies offense continued to shine in the seventh and eighth innings. Agustin Ruiz and Mateo Gil both drew one-out walks in the seventh and Matt O'Neill followed with an RBI double. Gil scored on an error on the same play, which made it 3-0.
In the eighth, Binghamton plated three runs to double its lead to 6-0. The inning was highlighted by José Peroza's RBI double, Ruiz's RBI single and Peroza scoring on a wild pitch.
Tyler Thomas pitched two scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts and just one hit allowed, closing out the game and earning his second save with Binghamton.
The Rumble Ponies will continue their series against the Fisher Cats on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and pregame coverage will begin at 6:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
Postgame Notes: Thomas has tossed eight-straight scoreless appearances for Binghamton...Jeremiah Jackson made his Mets organizational debut and was hit by a pitch and scored in the eighth...Jackson and Luisangel Acuña helped turn two 4-6-3 double plays...It was the Ponies' seventh shutout win of the year.
