
Erie Tops Trenton

(Erie, PA)- Erie hit three home runs and posted a 5-3 victory over Trenton on Wednesday night from Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA. Trenton slipped underneath the .500 mark (38-39) for the first time since May 25th (20-21). The Thunder have dropped five straight games.
Down 1-0, Erie (42-36) tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by Third baseman Ron Borquin. The Sea Wolves would take the lead in the fifth inning off of Thunder Reliever Michael Dunn (2-3). Erie Shortstop Cale Iorg singled with one out. Catcher Alex Avila followed with a two-run home run to give the Sea Wolves a 3-1 lead.
Trenton plated a run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by First baseman Jorge Vazquez to cut the Erie lead to 3-2. But, with runners at second and third base and one out, Catcher Jesus Montero grounded into a double-play to end the threat. Erie tacked on two runs in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Iorg, and an RBI double by Right fielder Brennan Boesch. Iorg went 2 x 3 with two runs, and an RBI. Trenton's final run of the game came in the top of the eighth inning on a solo home run by Shortstop Eduardo Nunez. The home run was Nunez's fourth of the season.
Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Montero. The home run was his third of the series, and fourth of the season. Montero and Nunez each had two hits in the loss for the Thunder. Erie Starting Pitcher Jonathan Kibler (4-5) picked up the win. He scattered five hits and three runs (two earned) in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three. Erie Reliever Zach Simons hurled 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his second save. Dunn took the loss for Trenton. He allowed five hits and four runs in 2 2/3 innings. He tied a season-high with five strikeouts. Thunder Starting Pitcher Zach McAllister received a no-decision. He yielded only two hits and one run in four innings. He struck out six and walked three.
Trenton and Erie play the third game of their four-game series on Thursday night. RHP Jason Johnson (0-1, 10.80) will start for Trenton and face Erie RHP Jonah Nickerson (4-6, 5.08). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
