Altoona Curve News Release
READING, PA - Michael Taylor hit a two run homer as part of a six run second inning for Reading that led the Phillies over Altoona 8-6 Wednesday night at First Energy Park.
Taylor led the 13 hit Reading attack with a 2-for-4 effort with a home run and two RBIs. Phillies pitcher Kyle Drabek (5-0) contributed a 3-for-3 night at the plate to go along with his 6.1 innings pitched allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts to remain undefeated with his fifth double-A win this season.
Curve second baseman Jim Negrych led the game off with a solo home run, the second time a Curve leadoff man has went yard to kick off a game this season. Negrych finished 3-for-3 and reached base in all five at bats for his 20th multi hit game of the season. Negrych has now torched Reading for a .500 clip (20x40) in 15 regular season games.
After Negrych's leadoff homer the Curve added three runs in the second inning on three consecutive RBI singles by Jeff Corsaletti, Jose Tabata, and Jason Delaney to put the Curve ahead 4-0.
Reading responded with the big second inning with an RBI double by Tuffy Gosewisch and the two run blast by Taylor being the key hits in a six run, five hit inning that put the Phils on top 6-4.
Delaney would lead off the ninth inning with his fifth home run of the year and the Curve would get within two runs, but no closer in the comeback attempt.
Altoona (27-52) hopes to snap its current three game losing streak Thursday night in game three of the four game series at First Energy Park. RHP Tyler Herron (0-1, 2.87) will make his second start of 2009 for Altoona and Reading (45-32) will counter with southpaw Joe Savery (9-1, 3.32) who hopes to notch his 10th win this season Thursday. First pitch at Reading is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
