Akron RubberDucks News Release

Fire-balling Fausto...The Aeros defeated the Bowie Baysox 5-1 at Prince George's Stadium last night, earning the win after the umpires halted the game due to heavy rain in the top of the eighth inning. RHP Fausto Carmona went the distance for Akron, holding Bowie to just a run on four hits in seven innings, walking none, and striking out five. The Aeros collected 11 hits in the game (all singles), with C Carlos Santana, SS Carlos Rivero, RF John Drennen and 3B Jared Goedert each collecting two hits. LF Nick Weglarz went 0-4 however, snapping his 23-game on-base streak (tied for the second-longest streak in the EL this year).

Double Trouble...Akron will play a doubleheader for the eighth time tonight, and this will be the seventh one of the year on the road (including three at Altoona). The Aeros have an 11-3 record in these 14 games with four sweeps and are out-scoring their opponents 57-35 in twin bills, and only twice has the pitching staff allowed more than three runs.

Akron's Stars Shine Again...Along with the host Trenton Thunder and the Erie SeaWolves, Akron is one of three teams to have five players selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game. Santana, Weglarz, first baseman Beau Mills, starting pitcher Hector Rondon and closer Vinnie Pestano will represent the Aeros and the Southern Division on July 15th at Waterfront Park. The five representatives are just one off the franchise record set in 2007, when the Aeros sent Randy Newsom, Reid Santos, Wyatt Toregas, Asdrubal Cabrera, Jordan Brown and Brian Barton to the All-Star game in Norwich, CT.
