SERIES FIVE OF FIVE vs. READING

OVERVIEW - The SeaWolves take the road for a brief, four-game series in Reading, Pennsylvania against the Reading Phillies. The 'Wolves have been successful against the Phils this season winning 10 of 14 games. Erie has already won the season series heading into this series.

These two squads have seen quite a bit of each other as of late. By the conclusion of this four-game set, 12 of the last 20 games for the SeaWolves will have been against Reading.

Erie and Reading locked up in four-game set at First Energy Stadium last week (June 20-23). The SeaWolves won three of four in that series. In game one, the Phillies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning, the SeaWolves scored four runs to take a 4-3 advantage. Jackson Melian's three-run home run in that inning would be the game winner as the 'Wolves held on for the victory. Game two once again saw the Phils jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The SeaWolves put a four-spot on the board in the top of the fourth and never looked back, winning the game 9-4. In game three, starter Jair Jurrjens held the Phillies scoreless through seven innings as the 'Wolves jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Mike Rabelo and Danilo Sanchez homered in the game to put Erie ahead. With a 5-1 lead in the top of the ninth, Kody Kirkland homered for the 14th time this season to put Erie up 6-1. The extra run would prove to be needed as the bullpen struggled in the bottom of the ninth giving up five runs, including a Michael Bourn grand slam. John Ennis picked up the save, striking out Gary Burnham with the tying run on base to end the game. The 'Wolves offense went dormant in the series finale only scoring two runs. Melian and Kelly Hunt both hit solo-home runs in the game as the SeaWolves fell 4-2.

The SeaWolves are coming off of a 13-6 victory over the Akron Aeros on Thursday. The SeaWolves hit a season-high five home runs in the game.
