Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Eight of the Binghamton Mets' nine starters picked up hits, leading the way to an 8-5 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the series opener at NYSEG Stadium Friday. The win improves Binghamton to 2-1 on their six-game homestand.

The B-Mets (35-44) got off to a fast start in the first, with Rashad Eldridge, Wilson Batista and Jorge Padilla picking up hits off David Purcey, loading the bases with nobody out. Michel Abreu then reached on a two-base error by Fisher Cats shortstop Manny Mayorson that brought home Eldridge and Batista for a 2-0 lead. Ambiorex Concepcion then grounded out to short, scoring Padilla, before Carlos Gomez tripled to bring in Abreu for a 4-0 Binghamton lead. Concepcion made it a five-run bulge when his single scored Abreu, who doubled, with two out in the third.

After New Hampshire (36-42) slugger Adam Lind reached Miguel Pinango for a solo homer in the fourth, the B-Mets scored again off Purcey (2-1) in the bottom of the inning. After Ray Navarrete singled, Corey Ragsdale and Eldridge walked, loading the bases for Batista, who scored Navarrete with a groundout before Ragsdale scampered home from third on a wild pitch, putting Binghamton up 7-1.

A two-run double by David Smith off Pinango (2-6) in the fifth pulled the Fisher Cats within 7-3 before Gomez walked, stole second and came home on Andy Wilson's single in the bottom of the frame for a five-run B-Mets advantage. Mayorson's sixth-inning RBI single and Chip Cannon's homer in the seventh closed out the scoring for New Hampshire, as Matt Lindstrom got the final four outs for his fourth save in five chances. Saturday, the B-Mets play the second game of their four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Mike Pelfrey (3-2, 2.88) will start for Binghamton against lefty Ricky Romero, who will be making his Fisher Cats debut. Game time is 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
