Erickson, Liddi Homer But Isotopes Fall 7-6 to Iowa

NEED TO KNOW: Griff Erickson and Alex Liddi each homered, but it wasn't enough as the Albuquerque Isotopes (35-41) dropped a 7-6 decision to the Iowa Cubs (38-36) Sunday afternoon at Principal Park in Des Moines, IA.

CRITICAL MOMENT: With the Isotopes down 7-5, a strikeout opened the top of the ninth inning before Trayvon Robinson singled and Joc Pederson walked to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with only one out. Clint Robinson flew out to left, but a throwing error by Iowa's shortstop allowed T. Robinson to score. Pederson advance to third on the play, but with two outs, Albuquerque wasn't able to tie it up as another strikeout ended the game.

C. ROB DRIVES IN MORE: First baseman Clint Robinson turned in a 2-for-5 afternoon with three RBI and one run scored. Over the last three weeks, Robinson has 25 RBI in 23 games, giving him 56 for the season. His career high was 100 RBI in 2011 for Triple-A Omaha. Robinson is currently on pace to drive in 105 runs this season.

OFFENSIVELY LATELY: Alex Liddi homered in the top of the sixth to put the Isotopes up 5-2 and in control for their fourth-straight win. The Cubs had different plans and used a pair of two-run homers by third baseman Kris Bryant in the sixth and eighthinnings to climb back on top. With an additional run in the seventh, Iowa turned a three-run deficit into a two-run lead going to the ninth. In four games so far with the Cubs this season, Bryant only has three hits but all three have been long balls.

STINGY STAFF: The Isotopes pitching staff had their streak of 21 consecutive scoreless innings snapped with a two-run home run in the third inning. In the last 27 innings, Albuquerque's staff has allowed just seven earned runs for a 2.33 ERA, under than half that of the team's season ERA of 5.12.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Cubs will play game three of their four-game series Monday at 11:05 a.m. MT. Right-hander Jeff Bennett (4-1, 3.59 ERA) will get the start for Albuquerque, while Iowa will go with right-hander Dallas Beeler (4-3, 3.98 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: Following the four-game set Iowa, Albuquerque returns home to face the Reno Aces June26-29, playing five games in four days. Friday, June 27, will be doubleheader beginning at 6:05 p.m. to make up a rained out game from May 25.
