INDIANAPOLIS - The International League today announced the addition of Indianapolis Indians right-handed pitcher Tyler Eppler to its 2018 All-Star Team for the 31st annual Huntington Bank Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Gildan. He will join Tribe middle infielder Kevin Newman for the All-Star festivities.
The 2018 Triple-A Midsummer Classic will take place on Wednesday, July 11, at Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Triple-A Skills Competition and Home Run Derby is scheduled for Monday, July 9.
Eppler, 25, has been a force in Indy's rotation this season from the beginning, going 9-3 with a 3.06 ERA (32 ER/94.0 IP) in 18 games (16 starts). He struck out a career-high 10 batters in his first outing against Columbus and delivered his team-leading seventh quality start last night against the Clippers, tossing a career-high 7.2 innings of two-run ball. The outing improved him to 6-0 with a 1.71 ERA (10 ER/52.2 IP) in nine games (eight starts) at Victory Field this season. He is 12-1 with a 2.29 ERA at The Vic in 22 career games (18 starts).
Over his last nine appearances, the College Station, Texas native has gone 6-1 with a 2.67 ERA (16 ER/54.0 IP). The Indians are 11-5 in his starts this season.
Selected by the Pirates in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Sam Houston State University, Eppler's All-Star honor is the second of his career. He was also named to the 2016 Eastern League midseason All-Star team.
