Charlotte Knights News Release
(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) -- RHP Spencer Adams shined in front of family and friends on Saturday night en route to his first career Triple-A victory.
Adams, a Cleveland, GA native, tossed seven shutout innings to lead the Charlotte Knights to a 5-0 win over the Gwinnett Stripers on Saturday in game two of their three-game series from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The shutout was Charlotte's fifth of the season.
Adams (1-2, 2.97) allowed just four hits over seven scoreless innings pitched to earn the victory. The 22-year-old right-hander walked two batters and struck-out four. Adams, a 2014 graduate of White County High School in nearby Cleveland, GA, threw 107 pitches on the night and dazzled those in attendance who came out to see him pitch.
In relief of Adams, RHP Rob Scahill tossed a scoreless eighth inning, while RHP Ian Hamilton worked a scoreless ninth inning to shut the door on Charlotte's 40th win of the season. Hamilton has not allowed a run in six appearances with the Knights since being promoted from Double-A Birmingham.
Offensively, the Knights used a three-run fifth inning and a two-run eighth inning to get past the Stripers and tie the series at one game apiece. Designated hitter Jake Elmore paced the offense with two hits and two RBIs. Right fielder Trayce Thompson and second baseman Eddy Alvarez added two hits each on the night. Alvarez recorded his team-high 22nd double of the 2018 season.
The Knights will conclude their three-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) on Sunday afternoon from Coolray Field. Pre-game radio coverage of Sunday's 1:05 p.m. game, which is the final game of the first half of the season, is set for 12:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
