DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Energy defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 109-104 Saturday night, eliminating the Skyforce from the NBA D-League playoffs.

Sioux Falls entered the day looking to qualify for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Skyforce needed to beat Iowa and have Erie beat Maine. Erie did their part, beating Maine 108-105. The Energy spoiled the playoff push for their Central Division rivals in convincing fashion - leading by as many as 18 points before holding on for the victory.

Iowa jumped out to a 47-40 halftime lead behind 12 points from Chris Wright. The Energy extended the lead to 79-61 on a three-pointer from Paul Harris with 3:19 left in the third quarter.

With their playoff hopes on the line, Sioux Falls made a run. A 20-6 Skyforce run early in the final quarter drew the visitors to within four points at 95-91. After a foul was called on Sioux Falls center Jarvis Varnado, Skyforce Head Coach Joel Abelson was whistled for a technical foul. Justin Hurtt sunk the technical free throw and Gus Gilchrist made one of two from the line to put Iowa up six points.

Sioux Falls got as close as three at 107-104 on a Varnado layup with 6.8 seconds left in the game, but Hurtt made a pair of free throws to ice the game.

Wright led Iowa with 23 points while Hurtt finished with 22 points. Gilchrist finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds for Iowa.

Varnado led Sioux Falls with 23 points and a game high 20 rebounds.
