April 6, 2013 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - One night after being eliminated from the playoffs, the Erie BayHawks looked to spoil the Maine Red Claws postseason chances. After trailing for the majority of the game, the BayHawks used a strong fourth quarter to defeat the Red Claws, 108-105.
Erie (26-24) scored the game's first four points before falling behind by five at the end of the first quarter. The Red Claws (26-24) controlled the second quarter thanks to 10 points from Josh Selby in the frame. At the break, Maine led 58-48.
After the deficit closed to just four points, the Red Claws went on a 14-2 run to extend their lead to 73-57. Erie's Cory Higgins then caught fire and scored 13 points in the remainder of the quarter to bring the BayHawks back to within four points entering the fourth quarter. The final stanza was close throughout as no team led by more than five points. With 1:17 remaining, Erie's Terrence Jennings buried a buzzer-beating three-pointer to put Erie ahead by one. The Red Claws failed to connect on multiple attempts and Erik Daniels sunk two free throws to clinch it for the BayHawks, 108-105.
Higgins scored a career-high 41 points on 16 of 30 shooting while adding six assists and four rebounds. The total is the second highest scoring effort in BayHawks history to Ivan Johnson's 46 point effort against Maine on January 14, 2011. Jennings finished with 11 points and three blocks in his first appearance for the BayHawks. Chris Wright helped lead the Red Claws with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Selby scored 25 off the bench for Maine. Curtis Jerrells added 20 and Mark Tyndale scored 12 points for the Red Claws.
The win gives the BayHawks a 26-24 record for the season. Despite the loss, Maine has clinched a playoff berth thanks to an Iowa victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce. NBA Development League Playoff pairings and schedules will be announced tomorrow.
