
Bakersfield Defeats Santa Cruz in Battle for the West

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors fell to the Bakersfield Jam 109-102 Friday night. With one matchup left, the Jam have clinched the West Division and Santa Cruz has secured the number three seed heading into the NBA D-League playoffs.
The Warriors were led by Travis Leslie, who scored 20 points and grabbed eight boards. Stefhon Hannah scored 17, had eight rebounds and dished out a game-high seven assists. Lance Goulbourne had 14 points and three fourth quarter blocks.
Bakersfield was led by Brian Butch, who shot 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, scoring 28 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. James Nunnally added 23 and Damion James chipped in with 20 points.
The Warriors held their largest lead of five early in the first quarter, but the Jam ended the first frame ahead by nine and used a 33-point second quarter to push their lead to 13. The Warriors came within three with 8:19 left in the third, but Bakersfield started the fourth quarter ahead by 10. Down by 14 with 7:43 left in the game, Santa Cruz went on a 14-0 run in the next five minutes to tie the game. Bakersfield responded by scoring eight straight points and won by a seven point margin.
The Warriors held the edge on field goal shooting (41.4%-38.0%), rebounds (55-49) and assists (22-19). Bakersfield had more steals (16-9) and committed fewer turnovers (20-17) than the Warriors.
The Warriors and the Jam will travel to Santa Cruz to play the regular season finale tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser Permanente Arena. Santa Cruz, which will end the NBA D-League regular season with the third best record, is guaranteed home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
