
Energy Fall to the Canton Charge

Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Energy (24-23) fell 102-97 to the Canton Charge (29-17) Sunday evening at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Energy were led by Russ Smith with 23 points and Willie Reed added a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Damien Wilkins added 22 points, Memphis Grizzlies assignee Jarnell Stokes recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Paul led the Charge with 23 points.
Canton jumped out to an early lead to start the first. Iowa would then go on a 21-4 run to open up a 12-point lead. Iowa held a 23-14 advantage heading into the second quarter behind eight points from Wilkins. Canton would fight back in the second quarter to tie the game 44-44 heading into halftime. Gutierrez led the Charge with 10 points. Iowa shot 55.6 percent in the first half.
Canton came out hot to start the second half. Iowa would go on a three minute scoring drought, as Canton would open up a six-point lead midway through the third quarter. The Energy and the Charge would exchange baskets but Iowa were unable to regain the lead in the third. Canton lead 75-70 heading into the fourth.
The Charge would start out the fourth quarter strong extending their lead to eight points. The Energy were able to fight back within one point midway through the fourth quarter. Canton regained control of the game taking a brief nine-point lead before the Energy were able to pull within two points in the closing seconds. The Energy would fall to Canton 102-97.
The Energy return home Wednesday against the Westchester Knicks at 7 p.m.
