Red Claws Complete Improbable Comeback against Drive

Grand Rapids Drive News Release
PORTLAND, ME - March 29 - The Maine Red Claws (33-14) came out on top in an exciting contest on Sunday afternoon, coming back in the final seconds to defeat the Grand Rapids Drive (21-25) at home by a score of 108-107.
The Red Claws scored four points in the final seven seconds to take the lead, and then a potential game-winning three-pointer by the Drive was waved off for being released less than a tenth of a second too late.
The heartbreaking loss eliminates the Drive from playoff contention. They would have had to win the remainder of their games and see the division-leading Sioux Falls Skyforce collapse to make it in, but this loss eliminates all chances of that occurring.
The Red Claws have already clinched a playoff berth, and clinched the top seed in the East in their previous game.
The Drive had an excellent first quarter, finishing it with a 31-20 lead. They maintained the nearly double-digit lead for the following two quarters, until the Red Claws started to seriously threaten late.
A three from Maine brought the Drive's lead to just two with two and a half minutes to go in the game, and James Young drew a foul and converted two free throws to tie the game at 103 with a minute and a half to go.
But Grand Rapids was again able to answer, as Diante Garrett and Adonis Thomas knocked down back-to-back mid-range jumpers to give the Drive a four-point lead, forcing the Red Claws to foul.
However, they didn't get that far, as an offensive foul was called on Kevin Murphy and Maine subsequently converted a three-pointer to cut the lead to one with six seconds to go, and
took the lead off a steal and a basket by Omari Johnson seconds later.
Murphy then appeared to hit a game-winning three-pointer for the Drive, but the review of the play determined that he released the ball just slightly after the final buzzer sounded, giving Maine the win and eliminating the Drive from playoff contention.
The Red Claws' next game will be against Canton on the road on the first of April. The Drive host the Sioux Falls Skyforce the same day.
