Jam Fall Short to Warriors

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Bakersfield Jam (34-14) fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors (33-14) 120-101 Saturday night at the Kaiser Permanente Arena. Six Jam players scored in double figures, led by Jerel McNeal's 25.

The Jam struggled defensively to start the game, allowing Santa Cruz to shoot 63.6 percent from the field to fall behind 33-24 after one quarter of play. In the second period, Bakersfield converted on six of their eight three-point attempts, helping them cut Santa Cruz's double-digit lead to two points (60-58) at the break.

Despite shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor in the third quarter, compared to the Warriors' 52.6 percent, the Jam managed to stay in striking distance and entered the final frame down 89-85. The fourth period was the difference in the game, as Bakersfield got outscored 31-16 and fell behind by as many as 20 points.

Xavier Munford tallied 16 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench for the Jam. Casey Prather and Adrian Thomas added 15 points apiece, while Alec Brown (11) and Renaldo Major (10) also finished in double-digit scoring.

Ognjen Kuzmic paced the Warriors with a double-double (20 points, 17 rebounds) while Darington Hobson posted 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Anthony Vereen and Mychel Thompson each had 16 points.

The Jam will remain on the road and head to Reno, Nevada for a match against the Bighorns on Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
