Salisbury, Md. - In conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, the Delmarva Shorebirds are excited to announce that Orioles outfielder Endy Chavez will continue his minor league rehabilitation assignment with the Shorebirds from Tuesday, July 10 through Thursday, July 12.

Chavez, 34, is currently on the Orioles 15-day Disabled List with a hamstring injury. In his first game in the minors, Chavez went 0-for-4 for the GCL Orioles on July 9.

In 32 games for the Orioles this season, he is batting .162 (17-for-105) with a home run and four RBIs.

Chavez has played in the major leagues for 11 years dating back to 2001, when he debuted with the Kansas City Royals. Chavez has logged 972 career major league games for the Royals, Expos, Nationals, Phillies, Mets, Mariners, Rangers and Orioles. He has accumulated 699 career hits, 114 career doubles and 221 career RBIs.

The Valencia, Venezuela native had a career year in 2006 for the Mets, when he hit .306 with four home runs and 42 RBIs.

Chavez may be best known for a leaping catch to save a home run for the Mets in game seven of the 2006 NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Chavez is the second Oriole player to rehab with the Shorebirds this season. Brian Roberts played in two games for the Shorebirds on May 29 and 30.

The Shorebirds begin an eight-game homestand against the Savannah Sand Gnats (Mets) on Tuesday, July 10. For tickets and more information, contact the Shorebirds at 410-219-3112.
