Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

(Urbandale, IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to announce that team captain Danny Elser was awarded the United States Hockey League's forward of the week award on Monday afternoon, capping his junior career in fitting style. Elser scored four goals in the Buccaneers' 5-2 win over the Tri-City Storm in their home finale on Friday night, the most goals scored by a Des Moines player in a game since the 2008-2009 season.

He struck for two goals in the game's first seven minutes to stake the Buccaneers to a 2-0 lead. Then in the third period, with the Buccaneers leading 3-2, he buried a slap shot from the left circle to give his team some insurance. An empty net goal in the final minute provided the fourth tally.

Josh Balch, in October 2008, was the last Buccaneer to be credited with a four-goal night before Elser's performance on Friday.

The Hopewell Junction, NY native then played in his final junior game on Saturday night in the team's loss at Fargo, ending a career that covered four years and 169 games. The last two seasons were spent in Des Moines where he had 62 points (31 goals, 31 assists) in 106 games.

At the age of 21, he has exhausted his junior hockey eligibility and hopes to elevate to professional hockey in the fall.

Prior to coming to the Buccaneer, Elser spent time in the Ontario and Quebec Major Junior Leagues as well as eight games with the USHL's Waterloo Blackhawks.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are prepping for their 35th anniversary season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
