Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan (April 7th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are thrilled to announce that alum Defenseman Jaycob Megna has agreed to a three-year entry-level deal with the team that drafted him in the seventh round (210th overall) during the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in the Anaheim Ducks. The deal is also a two-way contract, and Megna will immediately report to the Ducks' American Hockey League affiliate in the Norfolk Admirals to finish out the 2013-14 season.
Megna, the Northbrook, Illinois native, played for the Lumberjacks during the 2010-11 season recording 1 goal and 20 assists in 61 games played. After his one season in Muskegon, Megna went on to play his hockey collegiately for the University of Nebraska-Omaha and spent the past three seasons with the Mavericks notching 22 points (4 goals and 18 assists) to go along with a plus-12 rating in 105 games played.
In addition, Megna was a Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) All-Academic selection during the 2012-13 season followed by earning the same honors this season in the newly-formed National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
"I am honored to have the opportunity to sign with the Anaheim Ducks, and I am very excited to start my professional hockey career," stated Megna. "I had a very memorable three years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and I wouldn't be the player, or person, that I am today without my teammates and the guidance of Head Coach (Dean) Blais along with the rest of the Mavericks staff. It has been an unforgettable experience."
Due to the signing of his entry-level contract with the Ducks, Megna has decided to forego his senior season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and joins another Muskegon alum in Brendan Woods, who signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes following his sophomore season at Wisconsin in early April last year, to reach a National Hockey League deal with the team that drafted him during the NHL Entry Draft.
