WHERE: First Arena - 155 N. Main St., Elmira, N.Y. 14901
WHEN: 7:05 p.m.
The Jackals are facing the Royals tonight for the first of 16 meetings this season and first of seven at First Arena. The Jackals went 7-7-2 against the Royals last season and ran their all-time record to 43-30-9 against Reading. Last year's head-to-head record included a 4-3-1 record for Elmira at home against a Reading team that went 20-11-5 away from its home ice. The Jackals have faced the Royals more times (82) and beaten them more times (43) than any other team in the ECHL. This year will add to that stat since the Royals are Elmira's most common opponent. A new element to the rivalry is that three former Jackals from the 11-12 and 12-13 teams - Dustin Gazley, Louie Caporusso, and Matt Campanale, all play for Reading now.
Since their move to the ECHL in 2007, the Jackals have enjoyed one of the strongest home ice advantages in the league. They have won 20 or more games in five of their six prior seasons and average 20.83 wins at home per season. However, only three of Elmira's first 11 games this season are on First Arena ice. Only four other teams have had similar success at home in that time. Alaska and South Carolina have won 20 or more at home each of the last six seasons while Florida and Las Vegas have pulled off the feat five of the last six years.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return home on November 1, 2013 to take on the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. The Jackals will be giving away free magnetic schedules to the fans in attendance. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
