Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - Stockton Thunder head coach Richard Kromm has announced that forward Brayden Irwin has been signed to a professional tryout agreement by the Utica Comets of the AHL.

The 6-5 forward is en route to join the Comets in Utica ahead of their game tonight against the Syracuse Crunch at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Irwin posted 2 points (1g-1a) through the first two games of the season with the Thunder, scoring in Stockton's 5-0 rout of Colorado to kick off the campaign. He has played at least part of the last three season's in the ECHL, winning a Kelly Cup with the Florida Everblades in his first season in the league back in 2011-12.

"Irwin had a good game the first night, playing really well and scoring a goal," coach Kromm said. "He was playing out of position on the right wing even though he's a natural centerman. I thought his line played really well. This is a really good opportunity for him to get another stab at the AHL."

The Toronto, Ontario native played 20 games in the AHL last season with the Norfolk Admirals tallying 4 points (1g-3a) and 20 penalty minutes. Irwin has played in 66 career AHL games totaling 19 points (8g-11a) overall with the Admirals and Toronto Marlies. He has also played in 2 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, with both appearances coming in 2010.

In a separate roster move, forwards Austin Mayer and Ben Rosen have been activated from the reserve list ahead of the Thunder's game tonight with the Bakersfield Condors, while forward James Henry has been placed on reserve.

The Thunder and Condors square off in Bakersfield tonight at 7 p.m. at Rabobank Arena. Thunder fans can catch the game on AmericaONE or listen to live audio of the game at StocktonThunder.com/listenwatch-live. Additionally, the Thunder's "Home Away From Home", the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel, is hosting an outdoor viewing party for the game. Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to watch the game on an inflatable screen. The event is free to attend and there will be free cotton candy for kids while supplies last and special food and drink deals for Thunder fans.
