El Paso Takes Season Finale against Reno

Reno, NV. - Behind four home runs, the Chihuahuas beat the Aces Thursday night by a score of 7-4. It is the final contest of 2019 between the two clubs with El Paso owning the 12-4 advantage. The team from Texas took an early 2-0 lead after one thanks to two solo home runs from Ty France and Jose Pirela. The Aces were able to tie the score by the third courtesy of RBIs from Matt Szczur and Yasmany Tomas. However, the Chihuahuas scored five runs to make it 7-2 by the seventh on two, two-run home runs from Aderlin Rodriguez and Luis Urias and an RBI from El Paso's pitcher, Dillon Overton. Reno's Andy Young made it 7-4 with a two-run homer of his own in the eighth but it wasn't enough for a comeback. Overton earned the win throwing five innings and allowing two runs for the Chihuahuas. Righty Taylor Widener earned the loss for Reno dropping his record to 6-6 this year. The Aces will look to rebound with righty Joel Payamps making his third start for Reno this season and 2019 debut at Greater Nevada Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Strikeouts: Taylor Widener recorded five strikeouts tonight to bring his season total to 102 this season. He is 24 strikeouts away from passing Taylor Clarke's single-season strikeout record of 125 set in 2018. Widener's single-game high this season was nine, coming two times with the last on June 30 in Las Vegas.
Big Dogs: With four home runs tonight, the El Paso Chihuahuas reached 201 homers on the season which leads all of affiliated baseball. They had 33 homers against the Aces this season. The Minnesota Twins are second in baseball with 177 dingers in 2019. The Reno Aces are third with 171 long balls. Reno's big fly chances gained a big boost today as Kevin Cron was optioned from the Arizona Diamondbacks back to Triple-A. The most home runs hit in 2018 was by the New York Yankees with 267. Class-A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga led the minor leagues last year with 202 home runs. The Las Vegas 51s led the Pacific Coast League a season ago with 173 home runs.
On-Deck: The Aces welcome the Grizzlies to town for a three-game slate starting tomorrow and ending Sunday. It is the first time Reno and Fresno have faced off since April 28. The clubs have split the season series against each other five games apiece. However, the Aces have won the last four contests in a row. On April 28, the club scored nine in the final frame to erase an eight-run deficit to win 14-13 thanks to a walk-off grand slam off the bat of Andrew Aplin. The game one matchup with be Joel Payamps versus Wil Crowe. Crowe is the No. 4 prospect in the Washington Nationals organization according to MLB Pipeline.
