Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Albertson Asigen tallied four RBI and RHP Drew McDaniel struck out eight as the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers earned their first win of the week on Tuesday night, 13-3, over the Charleston RiverDogs at Atrium Health Ballpark.
With the victory, Kannapolis moves to 8-7 on the year and now four wins at home. On the other side, the RiverDogs slide to four losses in a row and a 6-9 record through their first 15 games.
McDaniel's season-high eight strikeouts over six innings was spoiled by only a solo home run from Tre' Morgan in the top of the sixth, with Charleston picking up their other two runs in the top of the seventh.
Kannapolis' first runs of the night came in the bottom of the first on a Caden Connor bases-loaded walk and an Arxy Hernandez sacrifice fly to hand the Ballers a, 2-0, lead after one.
Asigen's first RBI in the bottom of the third kickstarted another rally with an RBI single, followed quickly by a Luis Pineda RBI single to double their lead to, 4-0, after three.
Hernandez tallied yet another RBI in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single, pushing Kannapolis ahead, 5-0, after five innings.
The Ballers used six hits and a pair of walks to amass eight runs in the bottom of the seventh, starting with RBI singles from Pineda and Juan Gonzalez, followed quickly by a bases-loaded walk of Rikuu Nishida. One batter later, Ryan Galanie reached on a fielder's choice, with Gonzalez scoring on an error by Charleston. Asigen capped the big inning with a bases-clearing RBI triple, giving Kannapolis a, 13-3, lead after seven; a lead that proved to be too large for Charleston to come back from.
RHP Jake Peppers gets the start for the Cannon Ballers in the second of six games this week against the Charleston RiverDogs at Atrium Health Ballpark. First pitch for Kannapolis' second Education Day matchup is slated for 11:00 a.m.
Fans can purchase tickets for Wednesday's game or any remaining home games at kcballers.com or at the F&M Bank Box Office located at Atrium Health Ballpark.
