Eight-Run Inning Leads Squirrels to Comeback Win

RICHMOND, Va. - After trailing by five runs early, the Richmond Flying Squirrels stormed back for a 10-7 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday night at The Diamond.
The Flying Squirrels (8-4) trailed the SeaWolves (5-7) by five runs through the first four innings.
Trailing, 6-2, entering the bottom of the seventh, Ismael Munguia started the rally with a two-run homer. Brett Auerbach singled in a run and Andy Thomas worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the score, 6-6.
Later in the inning against reliever Chance Kirby (Loss, 0-1), Carter Aldrete brought in a run with a groundout, Fitzgerald scored on a wild pitch, Simon Whiteman hit RBI single and Hayden Canrtelle singled home a run to cap the eight-run frame.
The SeaWolves closed the score to 10-7 in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly by former Flying Squirrels player Diego Rincones against Richmond reliever Juan Sanchez (Win, 1-1).
Evan Gates (Save, 1) worked a scoreless ninth inning with three strikeouts to end the game.
The SeaWolves led off the game with a solo homer by Trei Cruz in the top of the first against Richmond starter Nick Zwack. Corey Joyce extended the lead to 2-0 in the second with a solo home run.
The Flying Squirrels closed back within a run in the bottom of the second with a two-out RBI single by Carter Aldrete.
Erie pushed the lead to 5-1 with a three-run homer by Julio Rodriguez in the top of the third inning. Rincones brought in a run with an RBI groundout in the fourth to open a 6-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cantrelle doubled and came in to score on a single by Munguia to close the score to 6-2.
The Flying Squirrels and SeaWolves continue the series on Friday night at The Diamond. Right-hander Mason Black (0-0, 4.50) will start for Richmond, opposed by Erie right-hander Ty Madden (0-0, 1.80). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
Friday is Latin America Night with the Ardillas Voladoras Knit Beanie giveaway for the first 1,000 fans ages 15 and older presented by Pepsi and Starry. It is also Funnville Friday Happy Hour with $2 12-ounce domestic beers from 5:30-7:30 p.m. as well as $2 fountain sodas at the Pepsi Fountain.
