Erie Otters News Release
Erie, PA - After losing their last two games at home, the Erie Otters put together a strong performance to beat the Sarnia Sting 4-2 in a Halloween showdown at Erie Insurance Arena Saturday evening.
Erie started its night against a good defensive Sarnia team by scoring the all-important first goal of the game. Nick Betz put in his sixth goal of the season and his fourth in the last four games to give the Otters the early advantage at 7:06 in the first period. Sarnia winger Brandon Lindberg was sent to the penalty box for a hooking call at 11:43, and Erie took advantage of the ensuing power play. Jake Marchment buried his ninth of the season with one second remaining on the man-advatnage to put the Otters ahead 2-0. Kyle Pettit earned the assist on the play, swooping behind the Sarnia net to find Marchment in front. Erie took their two-goal to the first intermission.
The Otters kept the pressure on early into the second period and went ahead by three. Taylor Egan's slap shot from the blue line at 3:06 was his first career OHL goal. Alex DeBrincat scored his OHL-leading 17th goal of the year with 11 minutes on the clock, giving Erie the dominant four-goal advantage entering the third period.
The Otters played keep-away for most of the third period, generating a couple of scoring chances but having no goals to show for it. Devin Williams attempt for his first shutout of the season was spoiled with just 1:28 left on the clock. Josh Jacobs scored on the power play to make it 4-1. Brandon Lindberg scored for the Sting to make it 4-2 with 3.3 seconds left, but it would be too little too late and the Otters improved their record to 12-1-1-0 on the season. Williams finished with 30 saves on 32 shots.
The Otters will be in action again Friday, November 6, at 7 p.m. when they host the Peterborough Petes at Erie Insurance Arena.
