ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans beat the Corpus Christi IceRays on the road 2-1 to advance their record to 9-3-1 (19 points).
The first period started with an early shorthanded goal from Corpus Christi's Ryan Garbutt at 3:26 to give the IceRays a 1-0 lead. Forward Liam Huculak found the back of the net with help from Tobias Whelan and Nathan O'Nabigon on an Americans power play at 11:11 to tie the score. The teams headed into the second in the deadlock, despite the Americans' 11-4 shot advantage.
The middle frame was scoreless, but both teams tested goalies Charlie Effinger and Kevin Nastluk. Allen had 13 shots on goal, while Corpus Christi got off 17.
Nino Musitelli scored an unassisted goal 6:48 into the third to give the Americans the 2-1 win.
Goaltender Charlie Effinger earned his fourth win of the season tonight, which brings his record to 4-2-0. He made 30 saves and was named first star of the game. Musitelli was the second star of the night with the game-winning goal.
