Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 20)- After a convincing victory from the night before, the Texas Brahmas showed signs of road weariness as they fell to the Killer Bees in Hidalgo 5-2.
Two powerplay chances proved two too many in the first period between the Bees and Brahmas as Rio Grande was able to convert on both chances :44 seconds apart. The first goal came off the stick of Jesse Bennefield and past goaltender Brett Jaeger. Texas was back on the PK following a tripping call on Elias Godoy, but the newly signed forward did not have to sit long when Grant Goeckner-Zoeller took a shot off his own rebound in the crease for the 2-0 Bee lead. At the 18:30 marker a redirected puck off the shot of Justin Kinnunen from the goal line by Grant Jacobsen put Texas back within one for the first intermission. The goal marks Jacobsen's second in as many nights.
A passing error in front of Jaeger by the Brahmas defensemen on the powerplay proved to be costly when the misfeed found Bees forward Aaron Lee's stick for the third goal for Rio of the game. It was just Texas' second shorthanded goal given up of the year. As the Brahmas went back on the job with the man advantage, it was A.J. Gale that made sure the Texas powerplay would get on the boards when he scored his team leading eighth goal of the season.
What tends to be the Brahmas period this season turned out to be a period of doom Saturday beginning with a goal at the 6:39 mark in the final period by Lee that Jaeger would like to have back. It was a loose rebound that trickled past the goal line for Lee's second of the night. Two minutes later the Bees made it a 5-2 game with a goal from Daymen Rycroft.
Next up for the Brahmas is the conclusion of their whirlwind Texas roadtrip as they face the Bucks in Laredo for a 7:30 PM start tomorrow night. On Wednesday the Brahmas return home to the NYTEX Sports Centre to face the Odessa Jackalopes for the first night of their two game "Military Nights" series. The Brahmas will be wearing special "Lady Liberty" jerseys in honor of the event. Faceoff is slated for 7:05 PM. For tickets please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423.
